HEATHER SPAID - JOUETT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Dear Trailblazer Families,

It is with great pride and devotion that I write this letter to you during my second year as principal of Jouett Elementary School. I am humbled and honored to be offered the opportunity to continue serving the LEGENDARY children, parents, faculty, and staff of Jouett Elementary.

I acquired the majority of my K-12 education in Fluvanna County. I know, a Fluco in Louisa County seems crazy but I absolutely LOVE Louisa County! I graduated from Fluvanna County High School in 1996 and attended Radford University where I earned two bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education and English.

I was a classroom teacher for twelve years and I truly cherished my time as a second, third, and fourth-grade teacher. In 2012, I earned a master’s degree from the University of Virginia in Administration and Supervision.

I am extremely passionate and excited about continuing the wonderful work that is already in progress at Jouett Elementary School. My vision as an instructional leader is to continue exposing our students to rigorous curriculum while nurturing each student’s character development. My role as your principal is to serve the Jouett community while ensuring that our students have a safe, challenging, and caring place to learn and grow.

I am committed to serving Jouett’s students, parents, and our LEGENDARY staff through open communication and a commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and excellence. I feel extremely blessed to be working at such a wonderful school nestled within such a supportive and loyal Louisa community.

I look forward to working with you all and serving as the leader of this LEGENDARY school. Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Heather L. Spaid, M. Ed.

Be Legendary. Every day. In every way.

Greetings Fox Families and Visitors,

Welcome to the home of the Foxes at Moss-Nuckols Elementary School! Here at Epic M-NES we pride ourselves in treating each child that comes through our doors as one of our own. Our students and staff worked extremely hard last year and showed that GRIT needed to have a successful school year. Indeed, my staff makes Moss-Nuckols a Top Notch School dedicated to making our students feel successful in some way every day. Together, we will facilitate a school environment where we continue to work together to provide engaging, challenging, and meaningful learning experiences for each child encouraging them to Think Differently.

Moss-Nuckols offers some exciting educational opportunities for our students – from the Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom to the Spanish World Language program. The learning environment must also be as safe and secure as possible for all involved in the process of fostering academic success for our students. A team approach is necessary to create and maintain that desired positive learning environment. To this end, Moss-Nuckols is excited to begin a “House System” this school year. It will be called “The Dens of Determination”. Each student, staff member, and parent will be a part of this positive experience. Our aim is to provide every member with a sense of belonging within the school community, opportunities to continue to develop the whole child, a sense of achievement inside and outside of the classroom, fun, and excitement through competition, more opportunities for leadership, along with an awareness of individual and collective responsibility.

Communication plays an important role in the success of our school. Your ideas and concerns matter and I welcome your input. You can always make an appointment to speak with me. If you’re new to the area and would like a tour, please call the school to arrange a tour. We just can’t hide our Fox Pride! Stay in tune with what’s happening in the Fox Den by keeping your contact information updated and visiting our school website or Facebook page. You can also find out about us using #EpicMNES. I’m looking forward to a great school year! Our Foxes will be on the move!

With Fox Pride,

Anita R. Roane

Greetings TJES Patriot Families and Friends,

Welcome to the home of the Proud Patriots!

One of my favorite quotes is “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” by John C. Maxwell, an author of leadership books. At TJES, we choose growth! With my return to TJ as the principal, we are already making some changes to further grow the opportunities for our students and their families. In fact, we have adopted a new mission statement that will focus our work and decision making: We will guide our students along their unique path to individual success

This mission is simple and clear: It is our job to help our students find their own way, or path, to future success. Each child’s journey will be unique, but we are here to provide them with the supports--academically, socially, physically, emotionally-- that they will need to continue on their path. Each of our students will have the opportunity to explore and experience the skills they will need for the future, the 5 C’s of 21st-century learning: Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Citizenship, Creativity, and Communication. Not only will these be integrated into their daily classroom experiences, but we will set aside time each week for students to work on developing these life-long skills.

We also know that we cannot accomplish this mission alone. We welcome your involvement in your child’s education and our school. Please let us know if you have ideas, concerns, or want to volunteer. Only by working together can we ensure that our students’ are receiving the best education possible. Please feel free to email, call, or come to visit and talk. You can also follow our progress on Facebook, in newsletters, and our school website.

To reintroduce myself to the TJES community, I was the principal at TJES from 2005 until 2011. I am coming home! I am so excited to be returning to this fantastic staff, students, and families! I have been in education for 35 years: 15 years as an elementary and middle school teacher, 6 years as assistant principal at JES, 6 years as principal at TJES, 8 years at Central Office as Director of Elementary Education, and now returning as principal at TJES.

My undergraduate degree is from Virginia Tech in Elementary/Middle School Education. My graduate degree in Administration and Supervision is from VCU. My family and I relocated from Henrico County in 2002 to Louisa County and have made it our permanent home. My husband and I have one daughter--our one and only. I enjoy reading, shopping, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends.

I am looking forward to this school year and watching our children’s paths develop!

gary black - trevilians ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Hello Trevilians Families,

Welcome to Trevilians Elementary School! We are excited that you and your son or daughter will be joining us in the Eagles’ family. Whether this is your first experience at having a student in kindergarten or your last, we are thrilled that you will be part of our team. We want your child to have a great six years at Trevilians Elementary, and that starts next year with kindergarten!

I cannot wait to meet you and your student and to develop a relationship with them and your family. To start off, I will let you know a little bit about myself. I will be starting my seventh year as principal at Trevilians Elementary School when the 2021-22 school year begins. I have nine years of experience as a principal and fourteen years as an administrator. I also taught at Louisa County Middle School for eleven years, and I actually began my teaching career at Trevilians Elementary as a sixth grade teacher!

At Trevilians Elementary, we aim to meet the individual needs of all of our students. We will provide appropriate instruction, remediation, and extension in order to make sure that each student can reach his or her potential. We have high expectations for our students, and we make sure that all students receive the supports they need in order to reach those expectations. We know that kindergarten is an important year for all students, and as a result, our staff will ensure that each student gets what he or she needs in order to prepare them for the rest of their time in elementary school and beyond.

One of our themes at Trevilians Elementary is “spreading kindness,” and that is something that our staff and students strive to do each and every day. Your students will see that when they begin their year with our amazing kindergarten staff. They will make sure that your child is taken care of every day, and they will start a partnership with you that will be important to your child’s success. We believe in having a strong connection with our families, and we know that communication is vital to the success of your child. Please reach out to us if there is anything that we can do to help your child and your family.

We look forward to seeing you and your child for the 2021-22 school year. If there is anything we can do ahead of time, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Gary Black
